Grayson College Breaks Ground on New Residence Hall to Enhance Student Life

Grayson College is excited to announce the start of construction on a new state-of-the-art residence hall, a transformative project made possible through the College’s bond package approved by voters in May 2024. This 84,000-square-foot facility will redefine the student living experience, and marks the next step in the College’s campus master plan.
“This new residence hall reflects our deep commitment to student engagement and success,” said Dr. Jeremy McMillen, Grayson College President. “As we reimagine campus spaces, we’re creating environments where students can not only live, but thrive academically, socially and personally.”
The new three-story building will replace Viking Hall, the College’s first residence hall built in the 1960s, which reached the end of its service life. Due to continued growth and increasing demand, additional student housing is needed to support the expanding campus community. With an anticipated completion date in fall of 2026, the new facility will more than double current residential capacity by adding 201 beds and introducing a range of modern amenities designed to support academic success, build community and enhance the overall student experience.
“Being an on campus resident has made me realize how valuable it is to have a home away from home, not just a place to live,” said Madelyn Coffey, Grayson College student and Resident Assistant. “I’m a proud Grayson Viking, and living on campus has allowed me to make some of my best friends.”
Designed with connection and comfort in mind, the residence hall will feature vibrant community hubs on each floor for studying, socializing and entertainment. A centrally located laundry area on the first floor will encourage interaction, while dedicated kitchen spaces will provide opportunities for cultural exchange through shared meals. Outdoor spaces will include a grill, green spaces, hammocking areas, a tetherball pad and a basketball court.
“Modern amenities combined with increased capacity will not only enhance the student experience but also improve safety throughout the facility. This new residence hall is designed to foster a welcoming and productive environment that supports both living and learning,” said James Parker, Associate at WRA.
