Grayson College Student Earns National Opportunity Through Pastry Excellence

Grayson College student Elizabeth Yates is rising to the top of the culinary world, earning recognition for her talent, determination and passion for pastry arts.
A Hospitality Management student specializing in pastry arts, Yates has quickly built an impressive list of accomplishments in competitive culinary events. She earned gold medals at both the Zwilling Winter Classic and the Bernard Urban Classic, showcasing the creativity and technical skill that have set her apart among aspiring chefs.
A graduate of Pottsboro High School, Yates originally moved to Texoma from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She has overcome both language and cultural barriers while pursuing her dream of a career in hospitality and pastry arts.
In May, Yates graduated from Grayson College with an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts, an Associate of Applied Science in Hospitality Management and a Certificate in Advanced Pastry. She plans to transfer to Texas Tech University this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Restaurant, Hospitality and Institutional Management.
Most recently, she earned the highest score in the Central Region Student Pastry Chef of the Year competition. That achievement secured her the opportunity to represent the Texas Chefs Association at the upcoming American Culinary Federation National Convention, where she will compete alongside some of the nation's top student culinary talent.
In addition to her success in competition, Yates has been recognized for her leadership and academic excellence. She is a recipient of the Grayson College Trailblazer Award and is a member of Eta Sigma Delta, the international honor society for hospitality management students.
"Elizabeth's accomplishments reflect not only her talent in the kitchen, but also her perseverance and commitment to excellence," said Chef Joanna Bryant, Grayson College Culinary Arts Program Director. "She has embraced every opportunity to learn and grow, and we are incredibly proud to see her represent Grayson College and Texas on the national stage."
Yates' journey exemplifies the transformative power of education and determination. Through hard work and a passion for her craft, she continues to inspire others while pursuing her goal of making an impact in the culinary industry.
As she prepares to compete at the national level, the Grayson College community celebrates her achievements and looks forward to cheering her on as she represents both the College and the state of Texas.
