Acknowledgement

Grayson College acknowledges that the Institution has signed and returned to the Department of Education the  Certification and Agreement and attests that we intent to use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.

CARES/HEERF I Funding

Grayson College has received funds totaling $2,157,844 through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.  Of the funds received, $1,078,922 must be distributed directly to students to help with expenses due to the disruption of campus operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CRRSAA HEERF II Funding

Grayson College has received funds totaling $4,451,723 through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) of 2021.  Of the funds received, $1,078,922 must be distributed directly to students to help with emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health), or child care.

ARPA HEERF III Funding

Grayson College has received funds totaling $8,614,048 through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for 2021.  Of those funds received, $4,384,993 must be distributed directly to students to help with emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health), or child care.

Grayson College has distributed the following Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds I (HEERF I) to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act:

  • $304,000 to 608 students on May 22, 2020 
  • $262,500 to 525 students on June 3, 2020
  • $25,000 to 50 students on June 15, 2020
  • $65,000 to 130 students on June 29, 2020
  • $14,000 to 28 students on July 27, 2020
  • $38,000 to 76 students on August 4, 2020
  • $138,000 to 276 students on October 2, 2020
  • $232,422 to 465 students on November 9, 2020

The estimated total number of students at Grayson College eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive emergency financial aid grants under Section 18004(a)(i) of the CARES Act is 1,183 for 2019-2020.  For Fall 2020, there were 1,146 students that were pre-identified and eligible for CARES Act funds.  Of the students pre-identified and eligible for Fall 2020, only 975 were awarded funds.

As of November 9, 2020, Grayson College has disbursed HEERF I emergency financial aid grants to 2,158 students in the amount of $1,078,922, and no funds are remaining to be disbursed through HEERF I to students.

As of June 12, 2023, Grayson College has disbursed HEERF III emergency aid grants to 6,527 students in the amount of $4,095,673.83 and $289,319.17 to 407 students for our student emergency aid program, and no funds are remaining to be disbursed through HEERF III to students.

Eligibility Criteria

Grayson College made a decision that all pre-identified students would receive a set amount of $500.  Students that were pre-identified by the Grayson College Office of Financial Aid to receive HEERF grants met all of the following criteria:

  • U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Registered with Selective Service (if you are male)
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Not have a federal or state conviction for drug possession or sale, with certain time limitations.
  • Enrolled in a regular academic program, degree or certificate
  • Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Not in default or owe an overpayment for a federal student loan and/or grant
  • File "as part of the original financial aid application process" a certification that includes:
    • A statement of educational purpose
    • Student's SSN
  • Have returned fraudulently obtained Title IV funds if convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to charges
  • Not have fraudulently received Title IV loans in excess of annual or aggregate limits
  • Have repaid Title IV loan amounts in excess of annual or aggregate limits if obtained inadvertently
  • Enrolled in at least one on-campus or hybrid class in the perspective semester.

For CRRSAA & ARPA funds, student are not required to meet the eligibility criteria listed above, except being a US Citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen and enrolled in classes at Grayson College.

Effective Spring 2022, Grayson College increased the amount per student, per term enrolled, to $750

Additional Information

Students are pre-selected based on eligibility criteria outlined above.  For HEERF I funding, prior to August 31, 2020 an application is not utilized to determine eligibility for 2019-2020 recipients.  Students who were pre-identified are sent an award notification outlining eligibility criteria, directions for use of funds, guidelines, and funding amounts.  After September 1, 2020, students will be required to complete a simple online application for the Office of Financial Aid to determine eligibility for the 2020-21 academic year, however, criteria won't change.  Notifications were sent to all currently enrolled Fall 2020 students via their student email address and a text message to let them know when the application cycle opens up.  The application available after September 1, 2020 will also list all eligibility criteria mentioned above as well as the student's attestation to use the grant funds to cover COVID-19 related expenses.

For HEERF II & III funding, an application is not utilized to determine eligibility for recipients.

On March 4, 2022, Grayson College launched a debt relief campaign to assist student in paying past due debt owed to the college.  Students who owe a debt that was incurred on their account from March 13, 2020 to January 6, 2022 (end of Fall 2021 semester) were notified about the campaign.  Students were directed to fill out a short application online to submit to the Office of Financial Aid for review.  A FAFSA Application is not a requirement to receive debt relief funds.  The application deadline is April 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm.  572 students with a total outstanding debt of $341,047.23 were identified for this campaign.

On February 7, 2023, Grayson College launched a debt relief campaign to assist student in paying past due debt owed to the college.  Students who owe a debt that was incurred on their account from March 13, 2020 to January 5, 2023 (end of Fall 2022 semester) were notified about the campaign.  Students were directed to fill out a short application online to submit to the Office of Financial Aid for review.  A FAFSA Application is not a requirement to receive debt relief funds.  The application deadline is May 31, 2023 at 5:00 pm. 819 students with a total outstanding debt of $552,976.58 were identified for this campaign.

On April 1, 2022, all remaining student HEERF funds were transferred to the Grayson Cares student Emergency Aid program. The student emergency aid program is managed by the Counseling & Social Services department at Grayson College.  Eligibility for funds is strictly determined by that department.  The Office of Financial Aid only awards and transfers the funds over to the Business Office for disbursement to the student.  For more information about the student emergency aid program, please visit the Grayson Cares webpage.
