Grayson College Breaks Ground on Dr. Mary Moses Health Sciences Center

Grayson College celebrated a major milestone today with the official groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art Health Sciences Building made possible through the College’s May 2024 bond initiative.
The building, named after former Grayson College Board of Trustee and Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Mary Moses, is a transformative step in the evolution of health sciences education. The new facility is set to become the heart of campus life, uniting existing infrastructure with future development through a dynamic and forward-thinking design, marking a major step in the College’s campus master plan.
“When the nursing program was started, the vision was to provide healthcare providers locally and at the community college level,” Dr. Michael Cox, Dean of Health Sciences said. “We’re really building for the future. As healthcare evolves, we have to evolve and meet the students where they are.”
The 211,000 square foot four story structure is envisioned as both a connector and a catalyst, serving the entire campus while housing innovative resources for the health sciences programs. The carefully planned building balances public engagement and private academic use, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment for students, faculty and the wider community.
“This is more than a building, it’s a bold statement about the future of healthcare education in our region and our state,” said Dr. Jeremy McMillen, Grayson College President. “We are creating a space where students, faculty and the community come together to learn, collaborate and lead. This facility is the next chapter in Grayson College’s legacy of serving Texoma.”
The first level of the building is designed to be open and welcoming, featuring a large lecture hall, student lounge, IT support services and flexible multipurpose spaces that flow into a vibrant new plaza. This ground floor will act as a central meeting point for students from all disciplines and backgrounds, fostering connection and interdisciplinary exchange.
The upper three levels are devoted to the core of the health sciences curriculum, structured around three distinct academic "quads:" Skills/Simulative Learning, Instructional Learning and Faculty Suites. These zones are unified by a dramatic grand atrium that encourages natural light, visibility and interdepartmental collaboration.
Highlighting the second floor is a 24,000 square foot simulated hospital space, an immersive learning environment designed to mirror real-world clinical settings. This facility will allow students to hone critical skills in a safe and controlled environment, preparing them to meet the demands of modern healthcare practice.
Each floor of the building includes thoughtfully designed collaboration areas that promote both informal interaction and structured group work. These areas will help foster a vibrant academic culture and strengthen student engagement across programs.
As the campus continues to grow, the new Health Sciences building will serve as a cornerstone for future development both symbolically and physically.
“Being able to practice in a simulated hospital room or dental lab builds confidence,” Leonie Rossberg, Grayson College Nursing student said. “It gives us a safe space to make mistakes, ask questions in real time and learn through experience.”
The construction of the Dr. Mary Moses Health Sciences Center is underway, and the Grayson College community looks forward to opening its doors in Fall 2027. The new facility will reflect the same architectural style and identity introduced with the recently unveiled Residence Hall.
