Dr. David Tercero

David R. Tercero has been performing, teaching and lecturing for over ten years. He completed a Bachelor of Music in Classic Guitar Performance, on full scholarship, from Southern Methodist University, under the guitar virtuoso Robert Guthrie. Following graduation from SMU, Dr. Tercero established himself as a respected performer and teacher in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Under the tutelage of the Fort Worth based guitarist Mitchell Weverka, Dr. Tercero demonstrated the ability to be competitive at the national and international level and was awarded fourth prize at the Columbus State University Solo Guitar Competition, First Prize at the East Carolina University Solo Guitar Competition and was a top finalist in Siracusa, Italy in an Italian International Guitar Competition.

In 2003 Dr. Tercero enrolled in the graduate program at the University of North Texas where he earned a Master of Music in Guitar Performance and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Guitar Performance. His related fields in his M.M. and D.M.A. were musicology and early music that provided him the opportunity to study the lute, baroque guitar, and cittern under the renowned early music specialist Lyle Nordstrom.

Dr. Tercero enjoys an active performing schedule and has been invited to perform at Tennessee State University, Messiah College (PA), and Texas Women’s College; as well as, by organization such as The Dallas Classic Guitar society, The Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and The Fort Worth Guitar Guild. Dr. Tercero has also performed in Europe in such venues as the Mendelssohn-Haus Musiksalon in Leipzig, Germany and in Mattinata, Italy at the Seminari di Fine d’Estate.
