Dual Credit Welding Program

Program Overview

The Grayson College Dual Credit Welding Program prepares students for employment as entry-level welders while still in high school. Students also have the opportunity to continue toward higher certification levels or complete the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Welding.

Upon successful completion of the program, students may earn:

  • GC Structural Welder Certificate
  • Eligibility to test for the AWS SENSE Level 1 Certificate

Instruction & Curriculum

Courses are taught by Grayson College instructors and include:

  • Online coursework through the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Hands-on laboratory training
  • Industry-focused welding instruction and practice

Flexible Schedule

The welding program features an innovative open lab format designed to accommodate busy student schedules.

Students complete:

  • Online coursework
  • Required weekly lab hours at either the Denison or Van Alstyne campus

Lab availability throughout the week allows students flexibility to participate in athletics, band, academic teams, and other extracurricular activities.

Classes are offered in both online and face-to-face formats at:

  • Denison Campus
  • Van Alstyne Campus

No prerequisites required.

Vaccination Requirement

Texas state law requires students under the age of 22 attending classes on a Grayson College campus to provide documentation of a meningococcal vaccination within the previous five years or submit a conscientious objection waiver prior to enrollment.

Tuition, Fees & Supplies

Tuition & Fees

  • $102 per credit hour + applicable fees
  • Inclusive Access textbook fee: $29.50 per credit hour (students may exercise the option to opt out) or $350 (price subject to change)
  • Lab & Consumable Fees: $96 lab fee/course & $50 consumables fee/course (exception includes WLDG 1427)

Estimated Supplies

  • Welding Kit: approximately $712.98 (price current as of May 2026; subject to change)
  • Jeans, long-sleeve cotton or flame-resistant shirt, close-toed leather shoes

Financial Aid

Full or partial tuition waivers may be available for dual credit students who qualify for free or reduced lunch programs.

Course offerings and sequencing may vary based on articulated class credits, semester availability, and student scheduling needs. High Schools may apply to articulate WLDG 1428 & 1430 if they have a qualified instructor and appropriate equipment.
