The Home of T.V. Munson, "Vinita"
The research on grapevines began in Vinita, otherwise known as, T. V. Munson's home in Denison, Texas. The basement was his office where he conducted studies, trials, and incubated grapevines, creating more than 300 superior grape varieties to form his own personal vineyard located behind his house. History plays an important role in the Enology and Viticulture Program at Grayson College. The program was introduced in 1974, with the planting of T.V. Munson's memorial vineyard showcasing his life's work with grapevines he created in his basement. By 1979, the vineyard had 65 different vines from his creations. More importantly, the foundation from which the program emerged was laid in 1876 when T.V. Munson stated, "I have found my grape paradise!" and moved to Denison. The wild native grapes along the bluffs of the Red River and its tributaries changed the course of the world as we know it today.
