Making decisions about your college major and career can be overwhelming. Follow this step-by-step process to clarify your goals and make an informed decision.

STEP 1:  Self-Discovery

Self-awareness will help you reach your career goals. Consider these questions:

  • What special skills and abilities do you have?
  • What motivates and excites you?

STEP 2:  Assess Yourself

Learn which careers will be most satisfying for you by assessing your personality, interests and values before exploring different careers. Explore the free career assessment below: 

STEP 3:  Explore Career Options

Take the time to investigate the world of work. Save careers of interest to your Career Coach profile. Research each online and by discussing with faculty, professionals, family, and friends. Some important points to consider:

  •  Nature of the work
  •  Education, training, and/or certification
  •  Work environment
  •  Salary
  •  Job market – current and future
  •  Related careers

Job Search Tools Focused on Individuals with Disabilities 

Here are some resources and job search tools specifically focused on individuals with disabilities to help them find employment opportunities:>

  • Getting Hired: A national employment portal that is fully accessible, connecting job seekers with employers. Offers monthly educational webinars, virtual career fairs, and an e-newsletter for job seekers.
  • Our Ability: A digital profile service created to promote future employment for people with disabilities through work-to-hire programs, helping to recruit future employees and implementing inclusion education for existing employees.
  • USAJobs: Individuals with Disabilities: A database of job listings for the federal government that includes specific information for individuals with disabilities seeking employment with the federal government.
  • Job Accommodation Network (JAN): A resource that helps people with disabilities enhance their employability and shows employers how to capitalize on the value and talent that people with disabilities add to the workplace.
