- ART 1016 - Drawing 1: Curious about how artists see the world—and how you can learn to see it, too? This course is designed for beginners with little or no art background. You'll explore how simple lines can be used to describe objects, express ideas, and create the illusion of space. Through hands-on projects using a variety of materials, you'll learn basic visual concepts like figure-ground relationships, depth, and perspective in fun, approachable ways. We’ll focus on observing the world around us—natural forms, architecture, everyday objects—and turning that observation into creative work. No special skills required—just a willingness to try, explore, and create. Some work outside of class is expected.
- Not Offered in Spring 2026
- ART 1017 - Drawing 2: Take your drawing skills to the next level in this follow-up to ARTS 1316. This course encourages you to explore more personal and creative approaches to drawing while deepening your understanding of composition, materials, and meaning. You'll experiment with both wet and dry media as you learn to express ideas, emotions, and narratives through your artwork. Projects will challenge you to think conceptually, develop a unique visual style, and explore themes that matter to you. Prior completion of ARTS 1016 is required.
