Ellen Melson

Ellen Melson HeadshotDr. Ellen Melson is the Professor of Agriculture at Grayson College and has worked in agriculture for over 20 years. Her first job was as a riding instructor and equine manager at a Therapeutic Equestrian center where she discovered a passion for teaching, animal science and husbandry, and the associated forage and pasture management. In 2007 she began managing a livestock and hay operation and selling agriculture products direct to consumers as co-owner/operator.

Ellen has a BS in Animal Science, an MS in Biology from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a PhD in Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University. Since 2012 she has taught life and physical sciences in the public-school system, at Austin College, and now at Grayson College. Throughout this time, she has continued to practice animal and plant agriculture on her own farm.

She is a life-long learner with a love for science and in particular Agriculture at the intersection of applied life and physical sciences. Her goal is to impart this love and excitement for science and agriculture to students, helping them discover the diverse opportunities and careers in the agricultural sciences.
