Coach Collins, known throughout Texas Junior Colleges as a "Defensive Wizard", begins his 5th season at the helm of the Lady Viking Basketball Team. The two-time "Coach of the Year" of the West Texas Junior College Conference has led two different junior college teams to the play-offs. In fact, prior to GCC, Coach Collins' teams qualified for the play-offs in 10 of his 11 junior college seasons, including 3 trips to the region 5 title game. Last season he led the Lady Vikings to the region 5 play-offs.The 25-year college veteran has coached in 5 decades at every level from junior high, junior varsity, varsity, junior college, NAIA, NCAA Div. 2, NCAA Div.1 and on the professional level in 2 foreign countries. He strongly believes this wealth of experience and the tremendous winning tradition of Lady Viking Basketball ( 8 Conference Championships and 3 National Tournament appearances) will quickly move GCC back into national prominence.The Rapid City, South Dakota native and his wife of 42 years,Bev, have two daughters; Stacie Collins-Campbell and Stephanie Collins-Barker. They are also blessed with five grandchildren: Cole Collins-Campbell 18, Shea Riley Campbell 14, Luke Collins-Campbell 6, Reid Collins-Barker 11 and Yates Collins-Barker 8.Coach Collins' has two brothers and a sister. David, the former 16-year Major League Baseball player who also was a major league coach for St. Louis, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Colorado and Cary , the Head Boys' Basketball Coach of the very successful LaGrange High School program in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Coach Collins' sister, Cynthia, is a psychologist living in Fresno, California.
