Pat Rafferty is in his seventh year as Head Coach of the Vikings Basketball squad. Prior to coming to GCC, Rafferty has been an Assistant Coach under college basketball legend and University of Louisville Cardinal Head Coach Denny Crum. Prior to joining to the University of Louisville staff, Coach Rafferty was the Head Coach at Midland College for five seasons where he compiled a 97-50 record and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Championship in 1998.Coach Rafferty is a native of Buffalo, Wyoming where he played for his father Jack and earned All-State honors.Rafferty began coaching in 1981 as an assistant at Eastern Montana College, his alma mater. In 1983, Rafferty became an Assistant at Nothern Arizona University where he was recruiting coordinator for the next two years. Following a year as assistant head coach at the University of Idaho, Rafferty earned the head coaching spot at Casper (Wyoming) College. At Casper, he compiled a 47-23 record in two seasons. His 1987-88 team posted a 30-8 record, won the Wyoming Junior College Athletic Conference Championship, sub-regional and regional titles, and finished sixth in the NJCAA National Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas. He earned Region IX Coach of the Year honors that season. He returned to Nothern Arizona as head coach in 1988 which ranked him at the time as the nation's youngest NCAA Division I head coach. Coach Rafferty also served as a scout for the Minnesota Timberwolves 1990-1992 before becoming assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Drake University for two seasons.
