College 101: Getting Ready for College

Academic Advisors provide students with pre-enrollment programs and services designed to assist in the transition into the College.

As part of the orientation process, incoming students receive:

  • an overview of the college
  • access to new terminology
  • an overview of the advisement process
  • overview of degree audit
  • interpretation of placement test scores
  • help in getting acquainted with the course selection and scheduling process in Campus Connect

New students receive an Educational Plan (Degree Audit) outlining the major listed on the application for admissions. This is an advisement document listing the required courses applicable to your major course of study.

What if I have not decided on a major?

What if I have changed my major after making application to Grayson?

  • New students who have changed their major since making application for admission to Grayson are encouraged to visit an Academic Advisor prior to or immediately after attending College 101 to "Update Records"

If I know my major and where I plan to transfer how can an Academic Advisor help me?

Academic Advisors can help you understand the steps for new students at Grayson, assist you with course selection and degree requirements if you have decided on your program. An Academic Advisor will assist you in developing a personal educational plan that integrates your academic, career and personal goals. You will learn the curriculum requirements for your major and the process for selecting courses, including understanding pre-and co-requisites as well as the sequence in which courses may be taken. If you are planning to transfer, and have decided on your major and transfer institution, Academic Advisors can help you understand the transfer requirements. They can also provide you with general information about the college, policies and procedures, and your student rights and responsibilities. Student Handbook
