Police Academy Calendar

The Texoma Regional Police Academy at Grayson County College offers a 16 week (720 hours) daytime program designed to prepare students for a very exciting, challenging, and rewarding career in law enforcement. The Academy also offers a night class for those who cannot afford to leave their daytime jobs.

Individuals completing the day or night Academy and passing the TCLEOSE state-licensing exam are licensed to seek appointment in state and local law enforcement agencies, throughout Texas, as a full time peace officer or reserve officer.

Many exciting topics, that are essential for today's modern police officer, will be covered during the Academy training. The training consists of extensive classroom study and hands-on training. Some of the topics include: Rifle Training

  • US & Texas Constitution and Bill of Rights
  • Criminal Justice System
  • Traffic Law Ethics

  • And Many Other Topics

All Academy students will also participate in driving exercises designed to improve pursuit skills, firing range shooting drills with handgun and shotgun, building searches, crime scene investigation, fingerprinting, etc.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Texoma Regional Police Academy students must meet the below listed MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be at least 20 years of age to enter Basic Training Academy; 21 to obtain state peace officer license; 18 years of age if the applicant has received an associate/s degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university.
  • Be subjected to a search of local, state, and national records to disclose any criminal record.
  • Is not currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction would be a bar to licensure.
  • Has never been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor OR a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
  • Not ever have been convicted (at any time) of a felony offense.
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be subjected to a thorough, comprehensive background investigation and be interviewed personally prior to appointment by representatives of the appointing authority.
  • Never have been convicted of any family violence offense.
  • Is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
  • Is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle or possessing firearms or ammunition.
  • Is a U.S. citizen.
  • Complete a Student Application form for the Texoma Regional Police Academy.
  • Comply with all TCLEOSE Minimum Standards for Licensing. (New Rules effective June 1, 2004)

MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a high school graduate
  • Have passed a General Equivalency Development (GED) Test indicating high school graduation level AND have 12 semester hours (2.0 grade point average on 4.0 scale) credit from an accredited college or University.
  • 2 years military with honorable discharge.

You must provide the academy with a copy of your diploma, transcript or military record.

Cost to attend the Academy

The cost to attend the four month long Academy is approximately $1,600 - this includes uniforms, books, psychological exam, physical exam, drug test, and other supplies. contact the Academy for details.
