Scholarships
Scholarships are
available! Some helpful info:
There are two types of
scholarships available: departmental and institutional.
Departmental scholarships
come from the main music scholarship fund.
To be eligible for a departmental scholarship from the music program,
you MUST:
be a music major
maintain a GPA of at least
2.5
be enrolled as a “full
time” student (12 hours or more)
complete the general
process of applying for scholarships, which includes the general process for
applying for financial aid. This
involves filling out a scholarship application, writing an essay, obtaining at
least one letter of reference or recommendation, providing transcript(s), and
filling out the FAFSA. The instructions
and requirements can all be found here.
You can apply for departmental
scholarships at any time, but the earlier you do so, the better your chances of
receiving aid. At this time, auditions
are NOT required for departmental scholarships.
Institutional scholarships
come from individual donors, and are handled through the Grayson County College
Foundation via the Financial Aid Office.
They each have their own
requirements. You will automatically be
considered for any institutional scholarships for which you are eligible, if
you follow the instructions above for completing the scholarship and financial
aid application process. The priority
deadline for consideration for institutional scholarships is March 15.
Some tips:
Get started early, to make
sure you make the March 15 deadline for institutional scholarships.
Write legibly. If your contact information can’t be read,
then you can’t be contacted.
Try to turn in everything
together. It’s the safest way to make
sure there are no snags in the process.
Contact the Financial Aid Office with any
general questions, or contact the Music Director for music-related questions.
