GCC Winter Concert Series a Tremendous Success!

 

            In November and December of 2007, the GCC Music Program presented seven amazing concerts in its winter concert series.  At this same time last year, the program presented only three, which, at that time, was a lot!  The program continues to grow, and will likely see even more concerts per semester in the future.  Below is information about the events.  Did you miss any?  Be sure to check our performance schedule so that you can make the next one!

 

 

Singin’ & Swingin’ I : November 15, 2007, The Boiler Room, 7:00 PM

The year-old tradition of combining classical voice and jazz piano studios continued this semester, with more great music than ever.  The program became so popular in only its second semester that it was decided to split it up into two parts this semester.  This first part featured many wonderful musicians, presenting powerful classical vocal music and swingin’ jazz.

 

Singin’ & Swingin’ II : November 19, 2007, GCC Campus, Room T312, 7:00 PM

            This event showcased even more talent, presented by GCC jazz piano and classical voice students.  The different environment offered a subtle change in the feeling in the air, but there was still more great singing and playing.

 

Guitar and Woodwind Recital: November 30, 2007, GCC Campus, Room T312, 7:00 PM

            In fall of 2007, GCC Music started new guitar and woodwind programs.  This concert represented the culmination of the hard work of many guitar and woodwind students, and also featured amazing performances by guitar professor David Tercero, and woodwind professor Jonna Griffith.

 

Classical Piano Recital: December 1, 2007, GCC Campus, Room T312, 2:00 PM

            The talented students in the piano studio of professor Tatiana Bays demonstrated their semester’s hard work at this recital, showcasing a variety of styles, levels, and moods.

 

“Christmas Ornaments”: December 2, 2007, St. Mary’s Church, 6:00 PM

            Subtitled “A Concert of Jazz and Contemporary Reflections of Sacred Christmas Music,” this unique concert showcased professor James Dering’s talents as a jazz pianist and composer/arranger.  The event also featured the GCC Singers Choir.

 

GCC Jazz Combo Concert: December 3, 2007, The Boiler Room, 7:00 PM

            The debut performance of the brand new GCC Jazz Combo was met with great applause and admiration from the packed crowd at the Boiler Room.  The new group is expected to grow in number and play much more in the future.

 

“Christmas & More” (GCC Singers Choir Concert): December 8, 2007, GCC Campus Room T312, 7:00 PM

            The hard-working and very talented GCC Singers choral ensemble performed their final concert of the semester to an excited and appreciative audience.  After the choir presented a variety of classical and holiday music, a standing ovation led to an encore.
