Spring 2008 Performance Schedule

GCC Music is proud to announce the performance lineup for this semester.  The concerts are as follows:

April 19, 7:00 PM: GCC Jazz Combo, The Boiler Room Coffee Shop, Sherman.

The talented GCC Jazz Combo presents an exciting evening of standards and modern pieces and arrangements, in a variety of styles, including swing, latin jazz, bebop, modern jazz, and funk.

April 24, 7:00 PM: Singin' & Swingin' I, The Boiler Room

The popular and unique recital features the combination of two studios: the jazz piano studio of Professor James Dering and the classical voice studio of Professor Mark McCrory.  The evening is a mixed-bag of performances by students in each studio, and will also feature performances by the instructors.  Vocalists will be accompanied by piano, and jazz piano students will be backed up by bass and drums.  It's always fun and always different.

April 28, 6:30 PM: Singin' & Swingin' II, The Boiler Room

The success of past Singin’ & Swingin’ events necessitated adding a second evening.  This is not a repeat, but rather an additional performance by more students, and more performances by faculty.

May 1, 7:00 PM: GCC Singers (Choir) Concert, Cruce Stark Auditorium

The choir has worked hard for yet another semester putting together a variety of interesting music.  This semester's lineup includes a "tongue-twister" in Russian, the beginning music for a Requiem Mass, a Renaissance Madrigal, a vocal jazz piece, and a half-classical half-rock piece written by the director, for choir, electric bass, and drumset, among other pieces.

May 2, 7:00 PM: Guitar and Bass Recital, Irma Blackburn Lecture Center, Nursing Bldg.

Professor David Tercero’s thriving studio of students put on a performance of individual and various ensemble combinations, including classical and more contemporary styles.  Mr. Tercero (a classical guitarist) will also perform.

May 3, 2:00 PM: Classical Piano Recital, Cruce Stark Auditorium

Ms. Tatiana Bays, our piano instructor, presents an exciting performance of her students, including some two-piano works.  Ms. Bays will also perform.

May 6, 7:00 PM: Woodwinds and Composition Recital, Cruce Stark Auditorium

This new event features a performance by Chris Badgett, saxophone, followed by a debut performance of a very adventurous solo piano piece (almost 30 minutes long!) by Michael Faber, a GCC composition student.  The piece will be performed by Sarah Crawford, our O'Dea Music Scholarship recipient. The event will also include one or more additional pieces.

All concerts are free and open to the public.  Come out and support your fellow students!
