THE FOLLOWING COURSES ARE AVAILABLE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ONLY. ANYONE WISHING TO ATTEND THESE COURSES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY THAT THEY REPRESENT.

Police Academy Course Descriptions

ADSP 1005. Accident Investigation. Reviews the most current information regarding traffic law and accident investigation. Expertise in court appearances and testimony, and in accident reconstruction. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1008. Auto Theft. Designed to teach police officers the latest techniques used by auto thieves and how to prevent auto theft. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1010. Advanced Police Reserve Training. Training to qualify reserve police officers as Texas Peace Officers upon successful completion of State Peace Officer Licensing Exam. One hundred twenty-four contact hours (12.4 CEUs).

ADSP 1013. Death Investigation. Issues directly related to the investigation of death. Understanding and recognition of the types of death, types of wounds, and post mortem changes. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 1014. Application Background Investigation. Productive and legal means of conducting applicant background investigations for law enforcement applicant background investigators and oral interview board members. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 1015. Basic Jail Operation. Satisfies state requirements for becoming certified as jailers in the State of Texas. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1016. Advanced Latent Fingerprints. Familiarization with the services of the F.B.I. identification division and latent fingerprint section. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1017. Basic Latent Fingerprints. Updating police officers on the latest methods of finding and lifting fingerprints. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 1018. Basic Police Reserve Training. Training to qualify reserve police officers as basic reserve police officers. One hundred forty-five contact hours (14.5 CEUs).

ADSP 1019. Basic Police Training. Training for police officers to meet the minimum state requirements for certification as peace officers. Four hundred contact hours (40.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1023. Crime Scene Sketching. Basic concepts of making on-site sketches, various methods of making crime scene sketches, and types of sketching material and aids available. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1024. Crime Scene Investigation. Familiarizing police officers with all aspects of investigating various crimes: securing scene, processing, collection, preservation, chain of custody for evidence, and determining useability of evidence. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1026. Police Dispatcher School. Practical instruction for person in the position of dispatcher in police and other emergency medical services. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1027. Eye Gaze Nystagmus in Intoxication. Identification of an intoxicated person by the movement of the eyes. Twenty contact hours (2.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1030. Forensic Firearms. Investigation of crimes involving gunshot victims through the use of ballistics, trace evidence, bullet wounds, ammunition, and collection and analysis of evidence. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1031. Utilization Force Techniques. Determination of the use of force when enforcing the law. Twenty-four contact hours (2.4 CEUs).

ADSP 1032. Search Warrant Preparation and Execution. Review of various articles of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure for preparing and processing a search warrant. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1034. Burglary Techniques and Prevention. Basic instruction in types of burglaries and examination of tools, tool marks and equipment used to commit burglaries. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1036. Basic Firearm Safety. Firearms safety, care and cleaning, shooting principles, handgun and shotgun day and night range firing. Thirty contact hours (3.2 CEUs).

ADSP 1045. Homicide Investigation - First Officer on the Scene. Informing new officers of proper procedures for beginning a homicide investigation and reviewing proper procedures for experienced patrol officers. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 1049. Instructor Training for Police Officers. Teaching law enforcement officers to instruct police courses. The domains of learning, factors affecting learning, instructional objectives, phases of instruction, and student teaching. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1950. Intermediate Police Reserve Training. Provides training to reserve police officers as intermediate police reserve officers. One hundred thirty-one contact hours (13.1 CEUs).

ADSP 1072. Missing Persons. Training police officers to find missing persons by information sources, interview techniques, basic location investigation methods, and review of the types of missing persons. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1080. Officer Survival. Techniques of officer survival on the street concentrating on high risk situations. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 1089. Prison Gang Intelligence. Instruction for police officers about the origins of street gangs and their impact on jails and prisons. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 1088. Psychological Profiles. Organized and disorganized criminal personalities of deviate sex offenders and rapists. Twenty-four contact hours (2.4 CEUs).

ADSP 2005. Advanced Driver Training. Operating police vehicles professionally for quick and efficient response in an emergency situation. Thirteen contact hours (1.3 CEUs).

ADSP 2006. Tactical Police Driving. Vehicle operation, attitude of drivers, seatbelt importance, safety factors, physical forces in automobiles, selected laws, checks (emergencies), and responsibilities of pursuit driving. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2007. Ritualistic Crimes. Understanding and identification of occult activities and how to successfully prosecute such cases. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2008. Police Personnel Management. Training in legal developments in police discipline, post selection drug testing, and how to deal with AIDS in the police work force. Designed for police administrators. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 2009. Safety Awareness. Course is designed to better prepare the law enforcement office in alternative methods of handling high stress situations for preventing injury or death to law enforcement officers, citizens, or suspects. Twenty contact hours (2.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2011. Street Defense. Stances, striking and blocking systems, control and handcuffing techniques, firearm and knife defense, and firearm retention for protecting police officers while on the job. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2012. Stress Reduction Workshop. Police officers learn about the problem related to stress and how to overcome them. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2013. Special Weapons & Tactics. Use of rappeling equipment, short gun, sniper rifle, and pistol along with special tools. Sixty contact hours (6.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2014. Basic Police Spanish. Basic training in how to communicate with Spanish speaking individuals who cannot speak English. Twelve contact hours (1.2 CEUs).

ADSP 2015. Tactical Operations for Law Enforcement Personnel. Police officer training in all phases of tactical problems: assault, pressure point, night tactical, hostage negotiation, firing, rappeling, self-defense, and CPR. Forty-three contact hours (4.3 CEUs).

ADSP 2020. Understanding Civil Process. Training peace officers to better understand their responsibilities when dealing with civil process, serving papers. Twenty-four contact hours (2.4 CEUs).

ADSP 2024. Arrest, Search & Seizure. Instruction will include latest laws on arresting and searching suspects, and seizure of property. Sixteen contact hours (1.6 CEUs).

ADSP 2026. Child Abuse Prevention and Investigation. Overview of the nature, causes and effects, including the methods of preventing and investigating child abuse and neglect. Forty contact hours (4.0 CEUs).

ADSP 2035. Weapon Retention. Techniques used to disarm a suspect and control a hazardous situation before an officer or civilian is inflicted with serious bodily injury or death. Ten contact hours (1.0 CEUs).
