Journals are stored on the second floor in various formats. The Barrcat lists the journal titles and holdings.
If you need an article that Grayson County College does not own, ask the library staff for an Interlibrary Loan form. Articles may be requested by this library from other libraries in the state. There is usually no charge for this service. You must plan ahead if you wish to use Interlibrary Loan, however, as the articles may take two weeks to arrive.
The journals and microfilm are located upstairs. If you are following this tour physically, as well as virtually, you might want to go back to the first floor desk, and take the elevator that is located in the work area behind the front desk. This is the only elevator on campus, and everyone is welcome to use it.
The metal file cases house microfilm of magazines and journals. Microfilm takes up less space than paper, has an almost indefinite life expectancy, and provides complete articles. While newspapers on CD-Rom may be more fun to use, the microfilm actually has more information stored on it. You can look at advertisements from the 1960's, classifieds, and see the actual layout of the newspaper on microfilm. If you have developed a liking for "full-text", the microfilm provides photos, charts or graphs that don't transfer to CD-Rom or other electronic sources.
A microfilm reader machine is located at the upstairs desk for your convenience.
Bound journals are shelved on the second floor. These volumes may be used in the Library, or photocopied, but not checked out. Current issues of magazines and newspapers are displayed across from the second floor information desk. All magazines and journals are for use in the library only.
Please check upstairs periodically to see if we have some magazines that you might like to take home on our "Free Magazine" tables.
