Grants and Loans
The following types of financial aid are based upon the student's and/or family's financial situation, undergraduate status, and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. The student must be pursuing a degree or certificate in order to receive federal assistance.
- Federal Pell Grant Program: Determined by a needs analysis and available to students who demonstrate financial need.
- Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): Based on financial need as determined by a needs analysis; priority will be given to students who have completed the necessary paperwork by June 1.
- Federal Work-Study Program (FWS): Determined by a needs analysis; will provide employment on campus for students who demonstrate a financial need. Priority will be given to students who have completed the necessary paperwork by June 1.
- Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG): Available to students who demonstrate financial need and who have completed the necessary paperwork by June 1st; applications will be processed in the order they are received.
- Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA): Determined by a needs analysis; the student must make an application to the BIA area office that maintains the student's tribal roll number.
- Federal Family Education Loan Programs:
- Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan: Determined by a needs analysis; student must be enrolled at least half time at the time of certification and disbursement and the loan amount cannot exceed the student's cost of attendance minus other financial aid awarded during the period of enrollment.
- Unsubsidized Federal Stanford Loans; Determined by a needs analysis; student must be enrolled at least half time at the time of certification and disbursement and the loan amount cannot exceed the student's cost of attendance minus other financial aid awarded during the period of enrollment.
- Federal PLUS Loans: Federal PLUS loans are limited to parent borrowers. A parent is defined as a person's natural or adoptive mother or father, or legal guardian (which may include a stepparent, as long as the stepparent meets the legal definition of an adoptive parent or legal guardian). Determined by the student's needs analysis; student must be enrolled at least half time at the time of certification and disbursement and the loan amount cannot exceed the student's cost of attendance minus other financial aid awarded during the period of enrollment.
- State Student Incentive Grant Program (SSIG): A program that assists states in providing grants to eligible students who have substantial financial need and who have completed the necessary paperwork by June 1st.
- Veterans Educational Program: Grayson County College participates in Veterans Educational Programs; the veterans counselor is located in the Office of Counseling Services on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.
Students who are enrolled solely in developmental classes will not receive federal assistance. However, a student may receive federal assistance if they are enrolled in a combination of academic and developmental classes in their degree plan during the semester. Students cannot receive federal assistance for more than 30 semester hours of developmental classes. Students who have not applied for or received federal assistance in the past will still undergo a satisfactory progress review. Students who are on suspension have the right to appeal the denial of federal assistance.
Students who are attending Grayson County College for the first time and who receive Federal Financial Aid and who completely withdraw prior to completing 60% of the semester or term, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. To obtain more information or to review the Federal regulations which govern pro-rata refunds, please contact the Office of Financial Aid located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center
