Established in honor of Patsy Lieuene Kemp Powell as a
Christmas gift in 1999 from her husband, Roger Powell. This
scholarship is in memory of Patsy's father, Lieuene Cochran Kemp
and in honor of her mother, Betty Ellen Folk Kemp, and is to be
awarded to GC students with financial need, with preference to a
student majoring in Education. Ellen Kemp and her twin sister both
went to Texas Tech and Howard Payne and became teachers. Ellen Kemp
is now in her nineties, in a rest home, and is doing well SELECT
June, 2004); she taught in several small rural schools in Coleman
County with her sister. She insisted that her two daughters do well
in their public schooling, and was very much still a teacher until
late in life. Both Ellen and her twin sister would be happy to know
that a new teacher is emerging with the assistance of this
scholarship. |
