Frequently Asked Questions About Graduation

 

Graduation Requirements for Grayson College: 

Associate Degree Requirements

* To graduate with an Associate degree, students must:

  1. Complete an Application for Graduation and submit along with the official Degree Audit, including the advisor's signature to the Admissions Office.  It is the responsibility of the student to know the application deadline as published in the schedule of classes.
  2. Complete the 60-72 semester hours' credit as required for the respective Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degree plan.
  3. Have an overall Grayson College grade-point average of 2.00.
  4. Have earned at least 25% of the total required semester hours at Grayson College.
  5. Have earned at least fifteen (15) semester hours in General Education Core courses for an Associate of Applied Science Degree and at least forty-four (44) semester hours in General Education Core courses for an Associate of Science Degree.
  6. Successfully demonstrate college readiness in reading, writing, and math.
  7. Submit course substitutions to the Admissions Office. These substitutions must be approved by the division deans.
  8. Complete Capstone requirement for an Associate of Applied Science. 

For graduation purposes, students may use degree plan requirements of the catalog in effect when first enrolled at Grayson College or any subsequent catalog in effect when they were enrolled, provided that it is dated no more than five years previous to the graduation date on the Application for Graduation, and the major has not changed.

 

Certificate of Completion Requirements

* To receive a certificate from Grayson College, students must:

  1. Complete an Application for Graduation and submit along with the official Degree Audit, including the advisor's signature to the Admissions Office.  It is the responsibility of the student to know the application deadline as published in the schedule of classes.
  2. Satisfactorily complete the courses in the certificate program with a 2.00 grade point average.
  3. Successfully complete fifteen (15) credit hours in residence at Grayson College.
  4. Students receiving Exit Point II certificates of 43 hours or more cumulative credits must have passing THEA/TSI scores or the equivalent.
  5. Complete Capstone requirement.

 

Regalia

Graduates participating in the commencement ceremony must have academic regalia.  Regalia will be available at no cost with your online reservation.  Information will be sent to all graduate applicants in November for Fall Commencement and in April for Spring Commencement.

 

Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta or Honors College Members

Graduation Regalia: 

  • Phi Theta Kappa members: Graduation Sash, Tassel and Cords may be ordered at www.ptk.org or contact your PTK advisor.
  • Sigma Kappa Delta members: contact your SKD advisor to order cords.
  • Honors College members: Contact your advisor for information.

 

 

Graduate Survey

Complete the online Graduate Survey. (If you have previously completed the survey, please do not do so again.)

  1. Log into the Grayson MyPage Portal
  2. Select the Admissions and Registrar tab.  On the upper right hand of the page under Announcements you will see Attention Graduates! Look for the blue Mortar Board.
  3. Click on Graduate Survey (a password to log in is not required for this step).
  4. When finished be sure to click SUBMIT.

 

Graduation Honors

To graduate with honors, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 based on Grayson College hours only.

 

Associate Degree

Summa Cum Laude ……………    4.0

Magna Cum Laude .……………    3.85 - 3.99

Cum Laude ……………..…………    3.70 - 3.84

 

Certificate of Completion

To graduate with honors, a student must

make a grade of "A" for all courses in the

program.

 

Graduation Honors will be announced for students with the above cumulative grade point averages earned by the end of the Summer semester prior to the Fall Commencement and by the end of the Fall semester prior to the Spring Commencement. The candidates for graduation receiving these honors will be recognized as they cross the stage. This recognition will also be denoted in the program that is handed out before the ceremony.

 

Your diploma will reflect your actual Latin Honors at the end of the final semester.

 

 

Diplomas

All commencement participants will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony. All candidates will receive their diplomas through the mail after completion of degree and/or certificate requirements are certified.  Diplomas are mailed 8-10 weeks after the date of graduation to the address on file in your demographic information at that time.

 

 

Demographic Update

Most graduation correspondence will be received via email. Verify and/or update Demographic data, including your mailing address, phone, and email address in your Campus Connect portal now! This is the quickest method since changes are saved when you log out. You may also come in person to the Admissions Office; your student ID and completion of the Records Update form will be required.

 

 

Seating

The number of Advance Seating tickets is determined by the reservation response cutoff. Seating is limited and is not reserved except for the graduates. We strive to accommodate each graduate's desire to have family members present. Please inform your guests to arrive early for the ceremony as no guests will be allowed to leave or enter until the procession is complete. No strollers will be allowed inside Cruce Stark Auditorium. Additional information regarding number of tickets will be sent via e-mail after reservations close.

 

 

Disability-Related Needs

Degree/Certificate candidates, who have disability-related needs requiring assistance for Commencement, should contact Jeff Scott, Assistant Registrar in advance at scottj@grayson.edu. Handicap seating is available in the auditorium for guests who should plan to arrive early.

 

 

Photography

A professional photographer selected by Grayson College takes photographs of each certificate or degree candidate as he/she crosses the stage to receive their diploma. You can view the photographs online a few weeks after the ceremony. Guests will not be allowed to leave their seats during the ceremony for photos.

 

 

Direct Loan Recipients

(If you DID NOT receive a Direct Loan, please disregard)

 

In order for your graduation application to be completed, you must make sure you have fulfilled your requirements for the Direct Loan funds you borrowed while attending Grayson College.  Federal regulations require Exit Counseling to be completed before you graduate.

 

To complete exit counseling:

  1. Please visit www.studentloans.gov.
  2. Log in using the requested information including your PIN.
  3. Select Exit Counseling and then Start under "Loan Exit Counseling".
  4. Follow the prompts to select Grayson College from the drop down list.
  5. Complete your Exit Counseling. 

Please allow up to 72 business hours for the Office of Financial Aid to receive confirmation of your completion.  At that time you can request verification of your Exit Counseling completion; you may stop by the Financial Aid office or send an e-mail request to financialaid@grayson.edu.

 

Once you receive your Exit Counseling completion confirmation, you will need to forward the email to scottj@grayson.edu or submit a copy to the Registrar's office attention Jeff Scott.
