Work Study And Loans At GCC
- Federal/State Work-Study Program (FWS): Determined by a needs analysis; will provide employment on campus for students who demonstrate a financial need. Priority will be given to students who have completed the necessary paperwork by June 1. FWS is generally awarded at 20 hours per week. Payment is made every two weeks at minimum wage.
- Federal Stafford Loans:
The College participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). The following are the three FFELP programs available to GCC students.
- Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan: interest is paid by the Federal government; available to students who complete a FAFSA & loan app; Freshman annual limit is $2,625, Sophomore annual limit is $3,500. Students borrow from a private lender and pay 3% in loan fees.
- Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: interest is paid by the student; available to students who complete a FAFSA & loan application; Independent Freshman & Sophomore's annual limit is $4,000; students borrow from a private lender and pay 3% in loan fees.
- Parent PLUS : interest is paid by the parent; available to parents of students enrolled in at least 6 hours; annual limit is cost of attendance minus other aid; PLUS loan application is required; parents borrow from a private lender and pay 3% in loan fees.

More About Loans: All FFELP loans are issued in 2 disbursements per semester. The disbursement will be issued by the student's lender 30 days into his/her semester of class, or approximately 2 weeks from the date awarded, whichever is later. The second disbursement in a semester will be after the 60% point of the sememster. In addition, all loan recipients must be fully admitted to the college, attend an entrance session, be enrolled in at least six hours, and be maintaining satisfactory academic progress prior to receiving their loan check. Students should reference the loan promissory note cover or contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information about loans.
