Grants At GCC

Grants are gifts that students are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not need to be repaid. The following grants are based upon the student's and/or family's financial situation, undergraduate status, and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. The student must be pursuing a degree or certificate in order to receive federal assistance.
  • Pell Grant: Federal grant awarded to students based on their expected family contribution, which is calculated from the FAFSA. Award amounts range from $200 -$1563 per semester; must be enrolled in at least 1 hours.
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG): is a federal grant available to students who are Pell eligible and have exceptional need. Award amounts range from $100 - $700 per semester; priority given to early applicants; must be enrolled in at least 3 hours.
  • Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG): is an institutional grant available to students with demonstrated need. Award amounts range from $100 - $600 per semester; priority given to early applicants; must be registered in at least 6 hours to receive this grant.
  • State Student Incentive Grant Program (SSIG/LEAP): is a state grant available to Texas residents with demonstrated need. Award amounts range from $100 - $600 per semester; priority given to early applicants; must be registered in at least 6 hours to receive this grant.
  • Texas Grant: is a state grant available to Texas residents with demonstrated need. Award amounts can be up to the amount of tuition and mandatory fees. Students must be enrolled in at least 9 hours; must have graduated no earlier than fall 1998; completed the advanced or recommended high school curriculum. Initial award must be made within 16 months of high school graduation.

Our grant funding is limited, and generally awarded to early applicants. Students are encouraged to apply by June 1, 1999, to increase their likelihood of receiving a grant(s). Students may apply College charges (tuition & fees, books, etc.) to Pell, SEOG, GCF and TPEG awards. SSIG, TTAG and TNHS disbursements are issued by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board - College charges may not be applied to these programs.

Students who are attending Grayson County College for the first time and who receive Federal Financial Aid and who completely withdraw prior to completing 60% of the semester or term, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. To obtain more information or to review the Federal regulations which govern pro-rata refunds, please contact the Office of Financial Aid located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center
