Basic Police Officer Course Admission Requirements and Costs

Cost to attend the Academy
The cost of tuition and fees to attend the Academy is approximately $1385 for In-District residents and $1825 for out of district residents – Students are also required to pay for books, uniforms, equipment and other expenses that are necessary. The total cost to attend the academy can range from $2400-3000, depending on the equipment that you purchase or already have. Contact the Academy for details.

To be admitted to the Texoma Regional Police Academy students must meet the below listed MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: (Texas Administrative Code Title 37, Part 7, Chapter 217, TCLEOSE Rule §217.1)

    Admission Requirements:

  • Be at least 20 years of age to enter Basic Training Academy; 21 to obtain state peace officer license; 18 years of age if the applicant has received an associate/s degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university.
  • Be subjected to a search of local, state, and national records to disclose any criminal record.
  • Is not currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction would be a bar to licensure.
  • Has never been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor OR a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
  • Not ever have been convicted (at any time) of a felony offense.
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be subjected to a thorough, comprehensive background investigation and be interviewed personally prior to appointment by representatives of the appointing authority.
  • Never have been convicted of any family violence offense.
  • Is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
  • Is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle or possessing firearms or ammunition.
  • Is a U.S. citizen.
  • Complete a Student Application form for the Texoma Regional Police Academy.
  • • Comply with all TCLEOSE Minimum Standards for Licensing. (New Rules effective June 1, 2004) MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • has passed a general educational development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level;
    • is a high school graduate; or
    • has 12 semester hours credit from an accredited college or university
    • 2 years military with honorable discharge.

You must provide the academy with a copy of your High School diploma, College transcripts or military DD214 or NGB 22
